Kaki Bukit Centre (Prison School) - An Adventure with SAC

SAC members are known to have ventured far and wide into the natural surroundings. However, until recent times, they have yet to explore the much-guarded urban territory of a penal institution - Kaki Bukit Centre (Prison School).

On 8 September, SAC members experienced a breakthrough when they "conquered" the Prison School. They came to impart their skills and knowledge, as well as share survival tips with the inmates who are also members of the National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) Scheme.

On 29 September, the SAC members returned to conduct the second part of the adventure training, which emphasized the practical aspects of the previous lessons.

The chief instructor, Mr Ho Ee Kid and the organizing committee chairperson Ms Colleen Koh, conducted a briefing of the day’s programme and reviewed some of the lessons learnt. We were then divided into smaller groups with SAC members acting as facilitators.

We were required to put our knowledge and management skills to test by drawing up a programme outline for an expedition at Pulau Ubin. We can choose either a 3D 2N cycling trip or a canoeing expedition. Our planning must cover all aspects including itinerary planning, map-reading, navigation, first-aid techniques, logistics, manpower planning, proper attire and equipment gear-ups, and contingency planning.
