General

  • How old is Singapore Adventurers' Club (SAC)?

    SAC was formed in 1963.

  • Who runs the club?

    SAC is managed by a group of volunteer members who form the management committee. They are elected at the Annual General Meeting.

Membership

  • What are the benefits of being a member?

    Besides the discounts and privileges offered by retailers to SAC members; you will be part of a club of members who share common interests.

  • How come all memberships expire on 31 December?

    All membership fees paid are for the period from 1 January to 31 December, and memberships will expire on 31 December, regardless of when the fees were paid in the current year.

  • What is Provisional Membership?

    Provisional Membership is required for non-members to participate in our activities. The current rate is $30. If provisional membership is payable for an activity, it will be indicated. A provisional member however will not be entitled to the rights and privileges of an ordinary member.

  • I have already paid Provisional Membership for a previous activity. Why must I pay again?

    Provisional Membership is applicable for each activity you sign up, as long as you are not a member of the club.

  • I have paid Provisional Membership for a previous activity, but would like to join the club now, how much do I have to pay?

    You only need to pay $50 for the Entrance Fee. Do note that the provisional membership register will start over on 1 Jan each year.

  • Will I be issued with a membership card when I pay provisional membership?

    No card will be issued.

Activity Registration

  • Are activities restricted to only SAC members?

    Most of our activities are open to everyone. Members of the public are welcomed. We do occasionally organise activties which are restrcited to members only, such as our Annual General Meeting.

  • Are there any age restriction?

    For treks, we do encourage participation of all ages. While every care has been taken by the organisation and it's leaders, participants are reminded that they are responsible for their own well being during the activity.

    However, there will be certain activities where the age is restricted by the governing authorities or service providers. For such activities, we may have to reject your registration.

  • How do I sign up for an activity?

    Fill out the registration form and send in together with your payment. We only accept cash or cheque as a mode of payment. Cheques must be made payable to "Singapore Adventurers' Club". For cash payments, it has to be made in person to the club administrator. Please contact club administrator to find out the operating hours for the week.

  • I am a non-member, can I sign up for an activity?

    We welcome non-members for all activities. However, priority will always be given to members. We do occasionally conduct activities exclusively for members. For these activities, you would need to sign up for membership to take part. Please refer to the activity details when they are posted.

  • I'm not a member, how much do I have to pay to take part in an activty?

    Non-members will have to pay the $30 provisional membership for most activities they wish to participate in. There will be some activities which will be be subjected to provisional membership. As such please refer to the pricing for each activity, as it can vary.

    However, we do organised some free local treks, talks or slideshows. For such activities, it is free for everyone including non-members.

Payment

  • What mode of payment do you accept?

    You can pay by cash or cheque.

    Cheques can be sent in with your registration form. Please make cheque payable to "Singapore Adventurers' Club". Please note that post-dated cheques are not acceptable.

    Cash payments have to be made in person to our club administrator during our operating hours. Please check out the 'News' section for any updates of the operating hours.

  • I do not have a cheque, how can I make payment in cash?

    Cash payments can be made at SAC Clubhouse to the club administrator. Payments can only be made during the hours of operation. As the operating hours can vary weekly, please check our website for the updated hours of operation.

  • I do not have a cheque, and will not be able to come down to make payment, is there any other way?

    If you have an on-line banking account, you can make use of the cheque issuance service available, such as iB Cheque from DBS/POSB and iCheque from Maybank. For more information on iB Cheque, please read DBS website. For more information on iCheque, please read Maybank website.

    The funds will be deducted from your account, and the bank will mail the cheque to SAC on your behalf. There will be a service charge (currently $1 for DBS & Maybank) levied. For actual rates, please check with the bank.

    Please remember to include in the advice your full name, membership no, and item you're paying for. Also, please check that the cheque is made payable to "Singapore Adventurers' Club" and that our address is correct.

Activity Preparation

  • What kind of preparation, and experience is required for participation in an activity?

    Skills and proficiency varies from activity. Do contact the respective trip leaders, as they would be in a better position to assess.

    But ample preparation for activities is required, especially in the area of fitness. Please take note of the activity grading listed with each activity. It is the participant's personal responsibility to ensure that sufficient preparation is done.

Trip Leading

  • I would like to help lead trips, but am inexperience. How do I go about obtaining the necessary skills?

    We would encourage you to sign up as a TrailBlazer. As a TrailBlazer, we will conduct regular sessions which will enhance your knowledge and skills in trip planning, safety, budgeting, or other useful skills which you may need in the course of organising and leading trips. We will also assign a mentor in your few trips for SAC.
